Volunteers Needed!

Horsemanship Camps

We need teens and parents to volunteer at our Saturday Day Camps.

  • Just be around the children while they are around the horses, extra helping eyes for safely.
  • Be in the round pens getting the children on and off the horses, extra helping hands.
  • Walk with the horse when needed, extra helping legs.

Prerequisite: Must have gone through a Horsemanship Day camp (with or without your child), so you know how the camp runs.

Benefit: After or before camp you or your child who has done the camp before can ride the horses.

Work and Ride

Having a total of thirteen horses at Camp Tonkawa, is proving to be to time consuming for Ms. April to do by herself everyday, along with running the rest of the camp and office duties. She also would enjoy "Sharing the FUN" of the horses with others.

Preteens, teens and adults are needed to help feed, groom, and then work with the horses. The work will range from doctoring up cuts, lunging, ground work, each day would be just "what needs to be done". Afterwards we can choose a horse and ride. Depending on the age and ability of the volunteers, will depend on where we'll go and for how long. Allow for at least 3 but not more than 5 hours, the longer stays please bring lunches and snacks.

We would like to work with 2 to 3 volunteers on any given day. Great for homeschoolers, for especially need helpers during the week, hard to work around week-end camp but not impossible. Can also do after school / work times for those who live closer to the camp. Please call in to request a date you would like to help and then, we will try to coordinate it with others to join you, so get your name added to the list.

Prerequisite: Must have gone through a Horsemanship Day camp (with or without your child) OR attended Horsing Around Summer Camp, so you have an overall view of how we do our horses.

Advertise

You can do your part in letting others know about Camp Tonkawa.

  • We want you to tell everyone you know about our camp, and especially how much fun you have here.
  • Forward our e-mails to your circle of friends.
  • Deliver flyers to your local library and any other establishment that would like to show support.
  • Let your local scout groups, and other children groups know about us.

Summer Camp Kitchen Aids

For three meals a day we need people to help in the kitchen. This is an ideal position for a parent of a child who is attending the camp. Ask about our child tuition discount rates for parents who take on various kitchen positions.
