Camp Tonkawa
Outdoor Learning Center, Inc

   I am Randy Scism

I have known the Holtzmans since2006 and volunteered may hours doing camp maintenance, in the kitchen as lead cook, and helping with the horses.  I have been around horses most of my life and love to teach children to love and respect them, while having fun riding them. During my teen years, I rode professional, roping with my father, heading and heeling.

I am a Native American, part Cherokee.  When I was younger the chief of the Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma gave me the name Graywolf.   As a child I loved spending time with my Indian Grandmother, on the family farm in northeast Oklahoma.  I have enjoyed learning more about my heritage while becoming more apart of Camp Tonkawa.  Figuring out the best way to set up the Camp’s tipis, has become a quest for me.

I have been a carpenter for many years. I started out working with my brother building houses in Oklahoma for over 10 years. Working with my hand brings me satisfaction.  After coming back to Texas I became a certified welder. Later back to my true love, working with wood, building cabinets in the Pilot Point area for over 7 years.

Worked in the apartment industry and was a supervisor for over twenty-five years, mainly in Texas but also in Florida and California. Certified in A/C, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, building maintenance, and pool operator.

Graduated from Pilot Point High School in 1973.  Then attended Oklahoma University and Tulsa University on a partial scholarship for baseball.  My baseball career continued with the triple A league in Tulsa Oklahoma.  My knees remind me today, of my catching position.

I am a father of three daughters and currently, five Granddaughters and usually the grandpa to all the kids who attend camp.

While knowing the Holtzman I have been to rendezvous to learn more about the outdoors and primitive skills so I could help with the camps and teach others about the great outdoor life, that most people haven’t experienced yet.  I love teaching kids and adults all about natural things in our surround environment, to help them start a new life respecting the land we live in.  I tell stories from my life experiences in the true fashion of a Native American.  Come pow wow with us and help me play the BIG drum, and eat my famous buzzard stew!

Thank you for reading this and hope to see everyone at Camp Tonkawa soon
