Madisun Holtzman
Madisun is a fun guy to be around, reminding us to have our PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) as he named it, with us at all times. With his amusing jokes and his unique angle of looking at life, you are almost guaranteed to have a wonderful time when he’s around. He has always been home schooled and is currently at high school level classes. Madisun has attended and learned so much at the many “Wilderness Skills Gatherings” across the country, to name a few: Moccasin Meet, Winter Count, Rivercane Rendezvous, Falling Leaves Rendezvous and the Earth Knack's Gathering. He is only a young adult but has the knowledge to start a fire with the bow drill, make and throw an atlatl, create flutes, blowguns, didjurydoos, and eating utensils out of bamboo, along with being a great storyteller.
Madisun has actively participated in various 4H programs giving him knowledge and experience with the small farm animals that we have at Camp Tonkawa. He won the State Competition in Entomology and has an interest in studying all those 6 and 8 legged creatures we find out in the wilderness, always sharing this information with curious campers. His public speaking was enhanced through the competitions with the 4H programs. His love for Japanese Studies began with the 4HForeign Exchange Program, hosting and then his trip there, to further his learning horizons.
Madisun was a Boy Scout after having completed Cub scouting and obtaining his "Arrow of Light". He is a member of the prestigious "Order of the Arrow" with the BSA. On scouting campouts his experience goes far beyond his current level in scouts due to all his camping and wilderness training. He enjoys when the Boy Scout Troops come to Camp Tonkawa because he can relate to them on their level and loves when they camp overnight.
At the camp his peers look up to him because he "knows the ropes". He is a friend to all and not only gets along great with younger children but can teach and relate to adults just as well. In his spare time you might catch him shooting his compound bow or running barefoot through the wood with his black lab, Nova. He is a very responsible young man that we are proud to have on staff at Camp Tonkawa.
