Camp Tonkawa
Wilderness Awareness Learning Center

Welcome to Camp Tonkawa

Welcome to our newly redesigned website. We hope you will appreciate the new look and the new ease of navigation around the site.

Camp Tonkawa is a Not For Profit Nature Awareness Learning Center for Children and Adults that was founded by the Holtzman Family. The camp gives a great "hands on" experience in the great outdoors. It is located on a 35 acre tract of land about an hour drive north of Dallas Texas.

We offer a great range of classes and camps for all ages. Check out our Calendar for our upcoming schedule of classes and camps. We also can create camps and classes for groups as needed.

Our mission is to reconnect mankind with nature with our "hands on" teaching of ancient Native American skills of nature awareness and primitive wilderness survival.

The Camp Tonkawa property is a certified wildlife refuge. Our woods of oak and junipers have plenty of trails, a small creek, fishing pond, swimming pond, pasture, organic garden, barn and a long house.

Camp Tonkawa News

Texas schools are being let out later for summer break this year. We didn't realize this until recently, so we had to change the dates of some of our summer camps that were orginally scheduled for the end of May and the beginning of June. Please check our Calendar for June to see our updated schedule for summer camps. Western Days is our newest summer camp. Book early for our Summer Camps as places fill up fast.

On April 12th we celebrated the 11th birthday of Galen Vaughan (pictured below). Pictured here on the left are his younger brother Connor (5) and cousin Alexandra (3). Not only did the children enjoy the horseriding, but the adults did too, including Galen's grandfather.

Our horseriding birthday parties are a great way for family and friends to get togther to celebrate a birthday in the great outdoors. Adults and children alike enjoy the party.

Our new baby chicks arrived in time for Earth Day. They were 2 days old. There are 24 pullets which are femals/hens and 2 males/roosters that have the green marks on their heads. All are the Barred Rock variety which in about 6 months will produce brown eggs, that we will be able to use at our overnight camps or sell to our day campers.

All of our web pages are printer friendly. When you print a page about a class, you will be able to print just the information about the class. The navigation menus will not print.
