Tree House Building Workshop

Costs: Welcoming adults, with or without children at the same low cost of $45 for the week-end.

Length of Time: Begins at 9:30 Saturday and will continue through Sunday about 3:30pm.

Class Description

This workshop is on learning how to build various types of tree structures. During the week-end camp you and the other students will choose what kind of tree house we will be constructing; taking into consideration the location we choose and the tree's characteristics. The goal will be to complete a new tree house for Camp Tonkawa's campers to be able to observe nature from a bird's eye view and also to provide you with enough inspiration and knowledge to go home and build a tree house in your own backyard for you and your friends or for your kids and grandkids.

TOPICS TO INCLUDE:

• Types of tree houses
• Knowledge of trees and their wood
• Different tools and how to properly use them
• Lumber sizes and quality
• Basic building techniques
• Useful knots and pulley methods
• Safety on the job site

For safety reasons students must be at least 12 years of age. Cost includes dinner Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday. You will need to bring your own lunches and snacks. It will be a fun time to work as a group and enjoy the camp. We'd love to have a few responsible Boy Scouts working community service hours, come and join us.

Each student need to come with work clothes, work gloves, a hammer. And like all of our camps please bring your tent, sleeping bag, water bottles and don't forget your lunches.

We have a swimming pond and outdoor showers, so bring provisions to enjoy.

NOTE : All classes have a minimum number of registrants to make or sorry to say it will be cancelled. So bring your friends and tell everyone you know. Some classes are listed but are not currently on the schedule for the upcoming year. If your group has an interest we can schedule a date for you.
