Horsemanship Day Camp

Upcoming Dates: 2009 Dates - Jan 24th, Feb 28th, Mar 28th, April 25th, May 9th, Sep 12th, Oct 10th, Nov 21st, Dec 12th
2010 Dates - Feb 13th, March 6th, April 4th, May 8th

Costs: $45 per person / Parents or scout leaders who will NOT be riding are FREE. Group Rate available for 10+ participants.

Length of Time: This is a one day event. Please arrive at the camp by 10 a.m. and class will end about 3p.m.

Class Description

This class is for all of you who "wish" they had a horse. You will get a general overview of the responsibilities of having a pet of this size. Wear your old blue jeans and boots, if you happen to have them (hiking boots the next best footwear, then gym shoes), because you will get a chance to do some basic riding. make sure to bring hats and suncreen for sunny days.

  • Horse Anatomy
  • Grooming - tools and techniques
  • Learn about the various tack (bridles, saddles, etc.)
  • Feeding Rules
  • Health maintenance
  • Teeth and Age
  • Ferrier care
  • Halter, Lead, and Tie correctly
  • Riding Basics
  • Knowing the Gaits the horse travels in
  • Rules of the Trail
  • Safety when working with horses

***Once you have taken this class you can schedule a 2 hour horse groom/tack/ride session COST: $35/per person

Bring your own lunch. Bring plenty of drinking water. Camel packs are great if you have one.

We now have some Helmets in various sizes, or bring your own.

Class space is limited so register early. (Additional dates can be set up if there is enough interest.)

**We can book a date for your Troop if you have a minimum of TEN**

NOTE : Brownie Girls Scouts can earn their Pony-Pals Try-It from the Fortworth Council.  They can also order it from Tennessee the Pony Ready Try-It which can be ordered the patches online.  http://www.gsmidtn.org/page.cfm?pid=52#P


Junior Girl Scouts this day event will earn you the Horse Rider Badge plus you will complete #2, 5 & 7 of Horse Fan (the rest can be completed on your own).

Also meets most requirements for the Boy Scout Merit Badge Horsemanship
