Horsemanship Day Camp
Ages: 7 and up. Adults welcome.
Upcoming Dates: 2012 Dates - Jan 7th, Feb 4th, Mar 3rd, April 7th - ***The 2ed Half of 2012 will be up soon. Contact us if you want to reserve a date for your Troop, Group or Family. Min of 10.
Costs: $45 per person / Parents or scout leaders who will NOT be riding are FREE. Group Rate available for 15+ participants. Camp will not be held for less than 6 participants.
Length of Time: This is a one day event. Please arrive at the camp by 10 a.m. and class will end about 3p.m.
Junior Horsemanship Day Camp
Ages: 5-7 year olds. Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Junior Horsemanship Day Camp is a shortened version of the Horsemanship Day Camp, see below. Brownie Girl Scouts can earn Pony-Pal Try-It, and Cub Scouts can earn Horseback Riding beltloop.
Class Description
This class is for all of you who wish they had a horse. You will get a general overview of the responsibilities of having a pet of this size. Wear your old blue jeans and boots, if you happen to have them. You will get a chance to do some basic riding. Make sure to bring suncreen and drinking water for sunny days.

- Horse Anatomy
- Grooming - tools and techniques
- Learn about the various tack (bridles, saddles, etc.)
- Feeding Rules
- Health maintenance
- Teeth and Age
- Ferrier care
- Halter, Lead, and Tie correctly
- Mounting and Dismounting Safely
- Riding Basics
- Knowing the Gaits the horse travels in
- Safety when working with horses
***Once you have taken this class you can schedule a 2 hour horse groom/tack/ride session COST: $35/per person
You are also welcome to join the Camp Tonkawa Horse Club that meets on the last Saturday of each month at 1pm, for more info click here
Bring your own lunch. Bring plenty of drinking water. Camel packs are great if you have one.
We now have some Helmets in various sizes, or bring your own.
Class space is limited so register early. (Additional dates can be set up if there is enough interest.)
**We can book a date for your Troop if you have a minimum of TEN**

Junior Girl Scouts this day event will earn you the Horse Rider Badge plus you will complete #2, 5, 7 of Horse Fan(the rest can completed on your own).
Also meets most requirements for the Boy Scout Merit Badge Horsemanship and the Cub Scouts Horseback Riding beltloop.

Girl Scout Troop 667 came from McKinney for Horsemanship Day Camp Rachel Mohr was one of the 6 Horse Helper Volenteers. She turns 13 on March 11, and has been coming out to volenteer with her sister, Sarah and dad, Derrel for years! A great family. Thanks to ALL the Volenteers, we couldn't run our horse program without you!!!
