Nature Awareness Family Camp

Costs: $70 for 1 parent and child. Extra family members cost $25 each.

Class Description
Family camp allows parents and younger children to come to camp and learn about nature and a few basic survival skills. We will play games, tell stories, do various crafts, all to reinforce the learning. There will be time for swimming and hiking. It will be a blend of learning, fun, and family time too. Meals will be kid friendly.
Some things planned:
- Outdoor first aid
- Wilderness cautions both plants and animals
- Learn about each of Texas' Wildlife symbols
- Basic animal tracking
- Understand the language of the birds
- Useful knots
- Fire building
- Animal classification and habitats
- Weather watch information
- Nature Hunts
- Sky observations (sun time, moon shape, constellations)
- Lots of fun crafts
- Games
- Campfire with sing-a-long
Cost includes Saturday Night Dinner and Sunday Brunch.
Everyone will need their lunches, camping gear ie, tent, sleeping bag, plate, bowl, mug and eating utensils. Young children please bring a "whistle." We do have a swimming pond and outdoor showers so come prepared to partake in these activities if you wish. A flash light and camp chair is nice to have or a blanket to sit on.
Note this class meets requirements for:
- Junior Girl Scout Badge Outdoor fun (each scout must assemble and bring a home First Aid Kit) / Sky Search (sky permitting us to complete)
- Brownie Try-Its Animals / Outdoor Fun / Movers / Space Explorer
We have a swimming pond and outdoor showers, so bring provisions to enjoy.
NOTE : All classes have a minimum number of registrants to make or sorry to say it will be cancelled. So bring your friends and tell everyone you know. Some classes are listed but are not currently on the schedule for the upcoming year. If your group has an interest we can schedule a date for you.
Large Family Rates are available.
Scout and other large groups of 12 or more are eligible for a group discount, contact us for more information.
